For the Close Assault game, I just used a pre-gridded map, rather than a blank grid overlay, to extend the playing area. No reverse-engineering required. :)

Thanks much for taking the time to reply so promptly.
I will try that. : ) BB.

You might try copying a grid PNG from BGE's "Grids" folder to the Components folder. Then in BGE, place the grid alongside the gridded map area (which is 40x46 when using a hexgrid), and lock it down once it's perfectly positioned. You might have to use the Nudge feature to get it to align exactly.

The Measure and Move commands should work just fine on this extended playing area.

I am trying to adapt a set of Ancients Miniatures rules to BGE, and the project is coming along ok so far,
but I am going to need a play area at least twice afforded by the 40 by 40 map. Also I'm not clear if the Move/Range tools will be available outside the initial map space.

I was thinking of Down Loading the Close Assault game and trying to reverse engineer from there;
as an old Squad Leader fan, I figure that might be an investment in a future project.

Still I was wondering if anyone had link(s) to any Tutorials that spell out the process of placing a Tile map step by step.
40x40 is just too small for almost any wargame so I would think this is something that should be clearly presented somewhere.

Ty in advance. BB.

Honestly have you thought of creating A window space, like we see in so many video games, the overall map might be much larger, but the visible space would be limited to 40x40 area currently presented; ok thats a step away from a true table top, but we have much the same already with the Zoom feature.

Not if you intend to use the Fog of War feature or the grid overlay.

However, if you don't care about those features and you have a pre-gridded map graphic, you can sort of "extend" the regular map area by placing another map as an Object beside the main map, then assigning the Object "Tile" status.

Is there a way to make a square gridded map bigger than 40x40?
