World of Greyhawk

Post by mako » Wed Mar 29, 2006 5:00 pm

Current pre-order owner of Battlegrounds, owner of Dunjinni, owner of E-Tools, and owner of Photoshop 7...can I be anymore ready? Just jokeing, anyway this will be my first time doing an online rpg as my group does table top - or pen and paper now. One of my members is moving to Tennesee here in the nest couple of weeks, so any advice would be greatly apprciated.
I run a 3.5ed D and D campaign in "Old school Greayhawk" we love smack, crash, bash, hack, kick, spit, drag, run, snort, .....oops got carried away, roll the Dice already! Roll playing is okay, but swashbuckling is preferred. Give us the old fashioned orc, troll, bugbear, and super size it with a dragon...to go.

also I have ..by far the best D and D music library on the planet,

MAKO :D

I recommend downloading a Voice app too, like Teamspeak or Skype. (Or using a speakerphone if you have free long distance)
This will make things go faster and will help it feel like you're all still in the same room.

The obvious advice is, since you're more into hack & slash, mostly you just need to gather large amounts of material that you can throw at them. Get a good variety of monsters and maps.
Also, make sure you have any important documentation ready to be sent through BRPG.

Music is always a good thing :D It's best to figure out what music matches the area/scene beforehand and have it pre-sorted so you're not digging through it all the time.

Where did you get your music? I'm always looking for new sources of RPG music.

Mako, have you downloaded the CSUAC baselines from the GM's Parlor website, yet? Everyone planning to GM with BRPG in a fantasy setting can benefit from having that treasure-trove of artwork at their disposal.

Also check out Steel Rat's free image gallery, which also has lots of modern, sci-fi, and post-apocalypse stuff (in addition to fantasy).

The links to both of these resources are in the "Links & Resources" page of the main site.

Umm ... I'll remind a certain someone about a nearly catastrophic "incident" on Sunday night due to an overeager rogue and inquisitive War Priest ?

Here is what I plan to do with BG, first a little background. I obviously like hack and slash, I play only one time a week for 4-5 hours, we've got no time for chit chat!
We use the Greyhawk setting and maps, they are really good! I could care less about the back history and the who's who of the realm, I mostly, "mos-t-ly" rely on the geography and regional situations for my set-ups. That being said I also threw in a twist. Greyhawk's history is the standard break up of a major kingdom into smaller waring kingdoms, mostly human, some elf, dwarf, orc, and barbarian lands. One big bad mystrious guy named IUZ (maybe a god or Lich). No one seems to get along, blah blah, blah....My twist is about 70 years ago a conquering army arrived they are known as "Imperius" or in other words the Roman's.
See where I am going with this?
After a brief and one sided war the lands of Greyhawk fell prey to another Imperiuos conquest. Greyhawk is now divided into 5 dstricts with a govenor and prefect for each district. No one knows who the Emporer is but he/she seems to be a good person. After establishing the districts and basic laws, Greyhawk began to flurish as it has never has. Roads are safe to travel, petty warring has stopped, life is pretty much normal, other than being occupied. The previous lords and royalty kept their lands and title but just have to pay a pretty coin to keep it that way.
The Imperious only allow humans amongst their ranks and are easily the best army in the land. Thay have IUZ on the run, finaly have the Orcs keeping to their treaties, and the Barbarians from moving out of the mountains. Now we have a new protagonist...Imperious. Some folks love em..others hate em.
Greyhawk has a gem of a city known as The Free City of Greyhawk, The Emporer knows this metropolis is the lynch pin of the entire realm. The people of the lands could possibly revolt and organize if Imperious ever tried to control this city, so it has been left alone, tax free.
Well, as of last Monday a major 10.0 earthquake struck the free city! Obviously somebody is being naughty! The city has turned to rubble, and ash. The Orc hoard knowing the city is unprotected by Imperious mounts an offensive to try to loot the defenseless city. The ancient underworld of the free city is now exposed and all sorts of creatures are now free, and to top it off, the 3 Academies of magic are in ruin with their libraries free for pilfering! Along with many ancient and major temples and churches destroyed as well.
Imperious must move in to protect the city from vandals, orcs, and monsters. They must help save the innocent, and help rebuild. However they are going to need money to do this, so an obvious occupation and taxation of the city seems immenant.
As we speak thousands are fleeing the city with nothing but the clothes on their backs. The orc hoard approaches from the west. Pirates are attacking every ship leaving the harbour, with no harbor patrol availible to stop them. From the north and east Imperious approaches with their two most decorated Armies.
So where does the character back stories and chit xhat come in?

Week 2

Post by mako » Tue May 02, 2006 10:56 am

Alright, here we go! The party needs to split up in the middle of this ruined metropolis to tie up some lose ends. The scout and barbarian go off to to secure some mounts, the druid runs off to retrieve an abondoned infant she left with a trusting elderly couple. The cleric of Nerull (Death Domain) goes off to confront a Paladin of Pelor as he tends to the wounded. Later that night an Imperiuos War galleon enters the habour with 5 supply ships in tow. The party meets back up by the docks and witnesses the local garrison trying to stop the Imperious from getting off the boat. Tempers are flying and threats are being made by both sides. The party decides to leave that night. As they go to retrieve their mounts they see their same horses being ridden by 3 civil workers trying to survey the damage and make estimations. The barbarian makes his claim on the horses and rebuffed by the men as they explain the state of emergency, blah ,blah, blah, a short and bloody fight leaves 5 of the garrison mowed down, and what looks like to the by-standers, is cold blooded murder and horse thievery. The party rolls out and travels six days before they come across and old mining town. Curiosity takes over and the party heads into the mines. see ya next week!

week 3

Post by mako » Tue May 09, 2006 10:47 am

Okay the crew picks up a sorcerer on the way, and the evil cleric stays behind in the ruined city. They head down into the mine and find the entire town's work force pawing away at a brick wall revealed behind a cavern wall. Try as they might they can not get passed the bricks "magic". They parety gives a try and whamo they get through! After a quick round of saving throws the town folks are fleeing the mine, and the party is left behind. The crash through the wall and find an ancient part of the mine. The party tools around and fight off some undead dwarvin miners and an undead minotaur. Despite taking damage they come out okay. Moving on the get jumped by some custom-made snake folk (not Yuan-ti). Saving throws are made, party takes damage they move on. Now the party is hurting a little and yet they keep going. On inot the darkness, confidence is high, but yet they get cocky. They seperate a little too far, and the point man gets jumped by two (RUin Hounds) MMII. Saving throws are made and lost, party starting to feel the pain, but win the fight and move on. the hell with move silent they bash down doors and stumble onto a summoning and get their butts handed to them by an elemental (tempest), so they run. They lick thier wounds for the night, and then move on. Still much of the mine to reveal, but now they slow the pace. Coming to a large mine shaft the press ahead, they all make consecutive saves, and comes across some lizard-illithiad! Easily dispatrch of them, however it was a trap. As the fighters moved on to engage eniles, the master Mind Flair moves in from behind and grapples the magic user. Magic user in dire straights. BArbarian fails save and now is dominated by mind flyer, and begins to attack his own party. BArbarian hacks down Druid (SHE"S DEAD) Mind Flayer can't keep grapple and goes down fighting.
See you all next week.

new updates

Post by mako » Tue Feb 27, 2007 2:06 pm

Well, been a while, but we have been playing all along. Still on the run from the Imperious the party is trying to keep to their distance from civilization. Not much happens just small encounters. In that time they move half way across the continant untill they reach the far side of The Great Kingdom. Party called upon to get a shut down dungeon project back up and running. With the help of a Minotaur the party dukes it out with some evil demon cultists, and get the job back on track.
Party decides to hed to the Savage Islands and takes an escort job gaurding a 30 wagon carravan. Party engages dire bear and dire badger and win despite massive damgae to the wagon train. Group finds a hidden Dwarven way station and enters. No dwarves to be found but plenty of baddies. Magic user dies, but group picks up cool Fawn/fighter, but only for a while as he tries to rob treasure from the party after vanquishing the bad guys, and gets salin by the party.

Now we are up to date.
