GamingArmy

Post by jthm0138 » Tue Dec 01, 2009 7:57 pm

Hello all, I have spent the last year building a new site GamingArmy.com. GamingArmy is a social networking site for gamers by gamers. It is my hope to assist the gaming community to grow and thrive in the new multimedia world. With that said, I believe, that Virtual Tabletop Applications are the future of traditional roleplaying.

I sincerely hope that each of you join and participate in this new and growing community, and that you all find it useful in serving your gaming interests.

Welcome, jthm0138.

I hope more VT users make use of the site. Could you give us some specific examples of how you think a VT user could benefit from joining and participating in the GamingArmy community?

Wow, it would be virtually impossible for me to cover every aspect and use of GamingArmy in a single forum post, but I will give it my best to sum up some of the key features.

Gaming Army is a 'Social Site' made specifically for gamers by gamers. We cater to everything from Collectible Trading Card Games to Table Top Role Playing Games, and from Massively Multiplayer Online Games to Miniature War Games. If you like playing games then its the site is for you.

First the Social Network features are very similar to sites like FaceBook and MySpace. However with a target audience of gamers it makes it much easier to find people with common interests. Members can easily find and add friends, create groups for their gaming groups (complete with private discussions, threads and announcements), communicate with fellow gamers, and follow their gaming interests and needs.

The site also features a global gaming forum for open discussions about every facet of gaming and forum based games to help users pass the time. A fully featured classified ads system allows users to post ads when they are looking for players/games, looking to buy or sell new or used gaming items, or anything else you might use a classified ads system for. A fully functional chat system allows users to chat in real time with other users, useful for finding games on the spur of the moment when you are just bored and looking for a one shot adventure. A fully functional arcade and casino system for users to pass the time, and an integrated points system that allows users to earn points for activity on the site that they can in turn spend on an ever growing collection of gaming accessories.

Not to mention Play by Post games, integrated dice rollers, and an ever growing list of new and upcoming games and features.

The Gaming Army site has ceased to exist, insofar as its former incarnation and goal. It is no longer a site that VTT users would have much interest in. It is now catering to the World of Warcraft community, instead.

After a long drawn out court case, Gaming Army is now back in action... With a 100% rebuilt site.... Now if someone could point me to some developer documentation for Battlegrouds, I would like to contribute to the community here.

Court case? What about?

There is no developer documentation for Battlegrounds. What exactly are you looking to develop? Artpacks? Adventure modules? Boardgame conversions?

The best I can offer at the moment is the updated User Manual found here. That covers up through BRPG v1.4i. I am currently working on producing a final User Manual which covers up through BRPG v1.7. Looking at an April release date for that.

Well it was three separate court cases, all of them involving Intellectual Property Rights, and conceived violations. Honestly it was all one MASSIVE misunderstanding but none of the companies involved were willing to listen to us at first. To make things worse one of the companies in question refused to identify what they felt was a violation of their IPR.

After several months of fighting back and forth between our legal team and their legal teams all companies decided to settle out of court. The end conditions we had to stop production of the Card Game we were designing for the site, we had to dump our user database, and we are not allowed to identify two of the companies in question. In turn they compensated us for our trouble.

As for Battlegrounds development, I have been working on quite a few token sets for my gaming group, and have been playing around with making skins and themes for all the other applications we use, and would love to port them to BattleGrounds RPG.

Sounds like another request for the Flash extensions feature to me. :P

Flash Extension? Any chance I could get a link to a discussion on this one?

Also I have added Battlegrounds into the Gaming Army catalogue, it can be found HERE. It would be great if a few of the members around here could go over there and vote on it and submit a review. Also if anyone officially connected to Battlegrounds would like to take ownership of the entries in the catalogue just let me know, and I will send you instructions on how to claim it.

Sorry for the late reply.

Here is my summary post on the topic:
Extensions: Flash Integration

I updated it slightly to make it a bit more contemporary and clarified things a bit.

And here is my potentially obsolete post on features that the flash API might need:
Extensions: Programming Interface
Be warned that I haven't updated that one (or most of the Suggestion Summary) in quite a while.

You can also find a ton of threads discussing the topic in greater detail by searching the forum for "Flash extensions"

heruca and I made some progress adding Flash integration to BRPG a while back, but regrettably he then got distracted by other features and hasn't found the time to finish it since. I am hoping that he will be able to get back to it soon.

Omnidon, not a month goes by that I don't think about it. It's something I would very much like to finish, I just need to find the time. The release of BGE (and now the need to promote its existence) has taken up most of my time, of late. :(

Coincidentally, not a month goes by without me posting about it.
