How to fix visual quirks when running BRPG or BGE in Windows

Post by heruca » Sun Mar 20, 2016 9:55 am

When I installed BGE in Windows 7, I noticed that many of the interface panels were displaying oddly, with coloration on some of the pull-down menus, buttons, etc. Something similar may occur in Windows Vista, Win 8, Win 10, etc. Someone new to the software might think this oddly-colored user interface is intentional. I assure you it is NOT.

If this happens to you, you can fix it by right-clicking on the Battlegrounds EXE file, selecting Properties, then click on the Compatability tab. Set it to "Windows 98" and click "Apply". The next time you launch Battlegrounds, the panels should display without the odd colors.

Hopefully some users more familiar with Windows will chime in with other (perhaps better) solutions. Perhaps switching themes can resolve this without enabling compatability mode?

I am not able to reproduce your graphical glitch using any theme in Windows 7

Are you sure it was Windows 7?

It was Win 7 Pro, in a virtual machine running in VMware Fusion 7. I'm not 100% sure but I believe the problem may have also been happening in a XP SP3 VM.

Probably has something to do with the VM software. I've never seen those issues in Win7 Pro, Win8 Pro, or WinXP Pro

Likely. It's probably still good to have this posted, since a number of Mac users may be using Windows VMs to run the Battlegrounds software.
