Measure Range function for Hex

Post by WyvernSting » Wed Aug 27, 2008 12:52 am

When using the "measure range" function in conjunction with square grid type, a dynamic blue line represents the distance traveled. When using the same "measure range" function in conjunction with the hex grid type, no dynamic blue line is visible.

I assume that the tool is meant to function the same regardless of the grid type in play.

Thank you for your time.

Nice catch. I'll fix this for v1.3b.

In the meantime, turning off snap-to-grid makes the blue measuring line appear while in hexgrid mode.

OK, for v1.3b, I've added the ability to measure ranges on a hex map with snap-to-grid enabled. It also respects the Preferences setting of rounding measurements up or not.

This has also laid the groundwork for displaying how far a unit has moved, in a future release.

That is a simple yet HUGE feature I'm looking forward to! Thanks, Haruca.

How do I measure distances in the 1.2f Demo Version, or is it a 1.3 feature? If yes, will there be a 1.3 demo version soon?

The measuring feature was added in v1.1. Just right-click on a unit and select the "Measure Range" command. Your current snap-to-grid setting will affect how measuring works. As of v1.3b, measuring works in hex mode with snap-to-grid enabled.

v1.3d is already available for download. v1.3e should be released later today. All BRPG releases work in both Demo mode or with a license. The same license codes that unlock the official release will also work on the beta releases (in fact, you don't need to reinstall the license for a beta; it just works).

Beta versions of 1.3 have been available for quite some time.

Public betas of BRPG are posted in the Product Releases forum as soon as they are ready for testing.

Feel free to download the betas as soon as they come out, though usually the betas should not be used for a real game session.

From what I've heard however, 1.3d is quite stable and would definitely be an improvement over v1.2f

great to hear! Now I feel stupid. I was looking in the documentation and didn't find it. The docu definitely needs a big overhaul... I guess that could save a lot of questions.

How about a wiki dokumentation, then it could always be up-to-date online?

OMG, somebody actually opened the User Manual!

I agree, the documentation is long overdue for an update (it was written for v1.0), which I hope to do soon after I can lock down a new official version.

I'd also like to embed some documentation right into the app itself, and to provide some video tutorials at some point.
