The webhost just upgraded to a new version of PHP, breaking most aspects of the forum.

To fix this, I had to upgrade the forum from 3.0.14 to 3.2.1
I had been avoiding this upgrade for a while because it breaks all the old mods and adds a new mod system.

As such, all modifications are now gone and it will take me some time to gradually add them back in.

Last week I upgraded the forum to 3.2.2 and reinstalled the Email List mod

You should see Email List again as a menu option at the top.
Direct link:
app.php/emaillist

Upgrading the forum is a very annoying process ever since they released 3.0 so I recommend not trying it without my help.
The database has to be copied to a private server to run the upgrade or it will become corrupted (because it tries to hog more resources than are allotted to any shared webserver).

When I get the chance, I'd add back some of the other mods as well.

Thanks, Omnidon.

I've been deleting spambots on a regular basis. Security seems lax with the new forums. I would have expected it to be improved.

It depends what you consider the "new" forums.

Back when we were on version 2.x I was using a highly customized CAPTCHA script that very few bots were able to crack (but was also difficult for many humans to read).

Ever since migrating to 3.0 we've been using reCAPTCHA 2.0 from Google, which is the most advanced mainstream CAPTCHA available. I have no doubt that there are some bots that are able to occasionally crack it, but there aren't really any better options other than using another highly customized CAPTCHA script. Many of the spammers that I have deleted were clearly accounts that were manually created by humans though.

patch 3.1 is the one that broke all of our mods, but the CAPTCHA was unaffected by that.

Are you seeing more than like 3 spam posts per week?

Maybe 3 or 4 a week. Not terrible.
