BUG: Script Error Placing Figures (RC1) [FIXED]
I get a script error when placing figures on the map.
It doesn't happen every time but it seems to run in sets, i.e 2-3 times in arow and then no problems, repeat.
It has occured both when I was logged in to host a game and when I wasn't
I'm running the June 5 RC on Windows X64

Well, if BRPG someday becomes a household name (at least among gamer households), smatt1001 will be able to boast that he was the first person in the world to buy a license.

Is it just a script error or is it an all-out crash?
If it's a crash then perhaps this is the bug you're having?

Yes, I was able to repeat it by deleting UserPrefs again. The first time BRPG loads when the UserPrefs are deleted, it replaces the file with a default version but still fails to load it. You probably had the bug because you were loading an old UserPrefs from a previous version, or BRPG failed to load it for some other reason.

Possible fix:
Open the file "UserPref2.txt".
If the contents look like this:
,Center,Mahogany Table
Edit the contents to look like this:
"Clear",Center,Mahogany Table
Save the file, close it, then launch BRPG. Let me know if the issue is fixed by doing this.
I've also added code to v1.0 that fills in default values should if fail to load them from this file.

Hmm I don't even have a UserPrefs2, just UserPrefs, and all it contains is:
But anyway, I now think my theory was incorrect, because I got this bug in the middle of testing the health halos:

Whatever the bug is, it can also be saved in an encounter, because it would come back whenever I loaded that encounter:

Code: Select all
1,2,4,Square,Black,100,1,30,988,4,1276

It's definitely a corrupted Encounter file. There's sizable chunks missing from the tail end of the last Cronuspt figure, and this continues through all of the Squidy figures. I'll double-check the code for saving Encounters, but there's a good chance I may have already fixed this last night.

I had saved that one 4 times while making it, but each time with different file names.
The first save I had to throw out because it wasn't loading at all, so I started over and made these:
http://allinyourmind.net/images/BRPG/testinghealth2.bge
http://allinyourmind.net/images/BRPG/testinghealth3.bge
http://allinyourmind.net/images/BRPG/testinghealth4.bge
(And this is the one posted above)
http://allinyourmind.net/images/BRPG/testinghealth5.bge
I never save over an existing filename.

You can force one to be created by setting custom prefs in each of the two Preferences screens.
Edit:
Here is where those files are stored on Mac OS X:
[YourUserFolder]:Library:Application Support:Macromedia:Director MX 2004:BRPG Sneak Preview.osx:Prefs:

I got the originally reported error upon first installing (unzipping) and running RC 1.0. After closing it and opening it the next day I didn't get the error.

to get the #2 pref file you must make a change on page 2 of the prefs.
I modified my files per the first example and it fixed my problems. for monday though I think i'm going to back up to 1,0,9a unless I redo the encounters this weekend. does the rc 1 have the same transfer problems of figures ( the ?s) anyone know?

Yay!Weezoh wrote:I modified my files per the first example and it fixed my problems.
Surprisingly, I don't think anyone else has reported a problem with figure transfers in 1.0.9a or later. Doesn't necessarily mean it isn't there, of course.Weezoh wrote:For monday though I think i'm going to back up to 1,0,9a unless I redo the encounters this weekend. does the rc 1 have the same transfer problems of figures ( the ?s) anyone know?
